Mother's Kitchen Sydney

Mother's Kitchen Sydney - Amma Australia

Mother’s Kitchen first started in Australia in Sydney in 2003.  It currently serves free, wholesome and nutritious meals to between 50-100 homeless and disadvantaged people each month in the Kings Cross/Darlinghurst area. It is a community service, run and supported by enthusiastic volunteers.

Where: “Rough Edges”, (part of St John’s Anglican Church) 231a Victoria Street Darlinghurst (google map)
When: A vegetarian meal is currently served on the 3rd Sunday of each month with a view to expanding our service.

How is it run?

Volunteers can be rostered on a regular monthly basis or can fill in on a casual basis. There are usually 5 to 6 people on the serving team each month guided by a team leader. In addition to serving the food, various volunteers make the soup, main course, salad and dessert. We’re always looking for more chefs! Food is prepared at home and brought in fresh and ready to serve on the same day. Volunteers can claim reimbursement if they wish.

“People have commented on how good the food tastes. Actually, we’re not just feeding them food, we’re feeding them love and kindness, which is exactly what Amma does.”- Sue, Sydney.

How do I volunteer?

To offer your help with serving, or cooking a meal, or to make further enquiries please email motherskitchensyd@ammaaustralia.org.au.

Please note: It is necessary to register ahead of time as it is a small facility where we can fit in only a limited number of helpers at one time.

How else can I help?

Should you wish to support this worthwhile service but cannot volunteer in a physical sense, then donations can be made online. Funds are used to cover the cost of ingredients and incidental expenses in running the program.
