Amma's Kitchen ~ Sydney

Amma serving food

"Feed those who are hungry, help the destitute, console those who are sad, give
relief to those in pain, be charitable towards everyone. This is Mother's message to you. Real devotion to God is to be compassionate towards the poor and the suffering."

Amma’s Kitchen which is currently serving meals to between 40 to over 80 homeless people 5 to 6 times each month is in need of more volunteers.

Experience is not necessary as the service is quite simple and easy to learn. Your help would be very much appreciated! Please see below for details:-

About Amma's Kitchen in Sydney
“Amma’s Kitchen” is a community service activity run and supported by enthusiastic volunteers.

With Amma’s Blessing, we have been operating in Sydney since 2003. It has been a rewarding experience for those who serve, and appreciated by those who receive our care and love.

"They have commented on how good the food tastes. Actually, we're not just feeding them food, we're feeding them love and kindness, which is exactly what Amma does."

How many people are on a Service Team, and how is it run?
Ammas Kitchen Sydney - Serving vegetarian meals to the homeless and disadvantaged in Kings CrossSome volunteers are rostered on a regular, monthly basis while others prefer to fill in on a casual basis for regulars who can’t make it on a particular morning. Some do both if they wish.

There are usually 6 people on each breakfast team and 7 people serving on a dinner team. There is always someone in charge of the team to guide you.

For the breakfasts, we organise ahead to each bring a food item to help with the shopping. For our vegetarian dinners, in addition to serving the food, various volunteers make the soup, main course, salad and dessert. We’re always looking for more chefs! Food is prepared at home and brought in fresh on the day. Volunteers can claim reimbursement if they wish.

Donations
Amma’s Kitchen doesn’t do any specific fund raising, however we welcome personal donations of food and money.

How do I volunteer?
To offer your help with serving, or cooking a meal, or to make further enquiries, all you need to do is email Sangeeta at ammaskitchen@ammaaustralia.org.au (Your email address will be added to the “Amma’s Kitchen” email list so I can let you know when help is needed). It is necessary to register ahead of time as it is a small facility where we can fit in only a limited number of helpers at one time.

We look forward to seeing you there!
