GreenFriends Australia - Living Consciously Project
GreenFriends and AYUDH Tree Planting Day

Green friends and AYUDH set out tree planting on 2 farms in the country last month proving a fun outdoor adventure. Over 850 indigenous trees were planted adding to AYUDH tally and goal of planting 1008 trees for the year which we have gone well over. Whilst 850 trees is not a lot in the overall scheme of things we all learnt as great deal about the Land care, wildlife corridors, re vegetation, sustainable agriculture and indigenous tree planting. For some on our team it was a first experience of Australian farming including having to wade through swamp like conditions, being knee deep in mud and fresh cow dung!
We began the Day with morning tea at farmer Daryls 350 acre property. Daryl gave us a brief introduction and lesson on tree planting then transported us on a trailer hooked onto his tractor to our tree planting destination, where we put a few hundred trees in the ground. Daryls property some 30 years ago consisting of only a few tea tree is now an abundance of greenery and bird life, beautiful swamplands and a thick hedging bushland around all his paddocks. These trees provide shelter for his livestock and increase the productivity of his pastures, and provide habitat and wildlife corridors for native animals. Daryl plants 2000 indigenous trees a year and is an inspiration to us all.
We then journeyed over to Farmer Rogers large property for a wholesome lunch and another wild ride across the paddocks including a hazardous crossing of some paddock creeks on foot. With our gumboots full of water we then squelched our way through the afternoon planting trees in Rogers newly created forest! A review of last year’s saplings saw good survival rates and growth of over 1m. I think we all found it a satisfying and fun experience. Seeing firsthand how the land can regenerate and indeed flourish gives hope to us all. It really is a matter of planting just one tree at a time and being consistent.
For all those who would like to share in this experience. Farmer Roger has another 1500 trees that need to go in in October this year. If you would like to help with this project, and future tree planting ventures please contact; Darshana 0411 234 826.
A big THANKYOU to all who participated to help make this world a little bit greener and thankyou as well to our farmers for an educational experience.
